A long-time client, Mio specializes in wearable heart rate wristbands and watches without chest straps. KPDi started working with Mio in early 2011 when we helped enhance Mio’s web portal and ecommerce site. In 2015, KPDi began developing a health and wellness platform for Mio, centred around redeveloping the Mio GO app to have an improved experience and expanding and connecting it to third party services.
For the improved health and wellness platform, we used an Agile process with a week-long development cycle. KPDi decided on the Agile Model because of the high number of people and teams already in place and working on the project and because of the ambitiousness of what they wanted to achieve. This way, it was possible to package up bite-sized improvements and prioritize the next steps.
Working with teams and independent contractors in China, India and various timezones in the US, KPDi took on a leadership role, managing and implementing the agile process and the many deliverables.
KPDi helped design and implement the new online look, carrying the theme through all of Mio’s online communications.
Mio GO was developed to be a cross-platform application that interacts with Mio’s heart rate monitoring devices using bluetooth and biking computers that use the ANT protocol. Mio GO was built using native mobile development for iOS and Android and is available in the app stores for Apple and Android devices.
"In its leadership role, KPDi has worked with many different suppliers on the mobile app and kept the project moving forward to improve the foundation of the app and add many new capabilities. The response from MIO has been fantastic as this continues to be a wonderful and effective working relationship with the Mio team and the many suppliers."
WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT THIS PROJECT
According to Mio, their devices are the most accurate heart rate monitors in a fitness device. We were and continue to be excited about working with leading-edge fitness hardware and device communications. Working as part of a global team to deliver a continuously improving product has also been very rewarding.
